Sushi Ko
すし耕
At Sushi Ko in Yutenji, the kitchen balances red and white vinegared rices across precise nigiri, accompanied by rich cooked dishes like oyster coquille and mackerel tossed with me-negi shoots.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Set along a quiet street in Meguro’s Yutenji neighborhood, Sushi Ko delivers solid Edomae technique wrapped in warm hospitality. The sushi chef tailors the sushi rice to each topping, pivoting seamlessly between mellow red vinegar and clean white rice vinegar. Shaped with a gentle hand, every piece neatly flatters the fish—from lustrous silver-skinned cuts like aji (horse mackerel) and kohada (gizzard shad) to red sea bream, sumi-ika (cuttlefish), and aged amberjack, each prepared with meticulous detail.
Beyond the sushi itself, the diverse selection of izakaya-style small plates makes lingering here a pleasure. Richly gratinated oyster coquilles share menu space with mackerel tossed with crisp me-negi shoots, nori-wrapped grilled tairagi (pen shell clam), and ankimo (monkfish liver), all proportioned for sampling in small portions. Alongside beer and shochu, the drinks list features comforting specialties like hot sake infused with toasted Japanese mitten crab, making it easy to settle in over a long meal.
The intimate interior centers on the counter, supplemented by a few tables and raised tatami seating in a calm, relaxed atmosphere. Operating exclusively for dinner with limited capacity, advance reservations are strongly recommended before stopping by.
